Topics & Format

The Scientific Committee, in close collaboration with the members of newly established IFSSH Committee for Educational Course Organisation — Chaired by Jonathan Hobby, with Jin Bo Tang, and Fidel Cayon — is working intensively to craft a program that is practical, inclusive, and future-oriented.

The program will be highly interactive, with plenty of time for discussion and open exchange of perspectives. Dedicated sessions titled “Clinical Challenges and Surgical Solutions” have been introduced to foster active participation. Participants will contribute directly by discussing complex clinical cases and surgical strategies alongside international experts.

The morning plenary sessions, led by internationally renowned faculty and coordinated by the Italian Scientific Committee, will cover the core knowledge of hand surgery, offering in-depth insights into the most debated topics and recent innovations across the following areas.

The format emphasizes interaction and customization, with afternoon sessions including Expert Panels, Case Discussions, Focus Sessions, and Hands-On Workshops. Participants will be able to build their own modular tracks that best reflects their personal interests, clinical focus, and professional goals.

Clinical Challenges & Surgical Solutions

Challenging cases highlighting decision-making and treatment strategies.

Case Submission

Submission format

Organizers invite registered participants to submit short abstracts on their cases in one of two distinct categories:

  1. Clinical Challenges
Focused on real-life cases that posed significant diagnostic or therapeutic dilemmas. The educational value lies in the complexity of clinical reasoning and decision-making — even when the final treatment was conventional.
    Clinical challenges cases may include:
    • Background – Clinical context and presentation
    • Case Description – Key findings and evolution
    • Main Challenge – Diagnostic/therapeutic complexity
    • Management and Outcome – Approach and result
    • Lessons Learned – Educational takeaway

  2. Surgical Solutions
Dedicated to cases managed with innovative or particularly effective surgical techniques or procedural refinements. The emphasis is on technical creativity, originality, and applicability in daily surgical practice.
    Surgical solutions cases may include:
    • Clinical Context – Indication for intervention
    • Problem to Solve – What required a novel solution
    • Surgical Technique / Strategy – Description of method
    • Outcomes – Results and key advantages
    • Relevance – Applicability and value to peers

Both categories may include cases involving complications or failures in diagnosis or treatment, provided they illustrate a meaningful learning process or a surgical solution with educational value.

All abstracts must be submitted in English using the submission system. Authors should select the category — Clinical Challenge or Surgical Solution — that appears most appropriate for their case; where the distinction is unclear, the Scientific Committee may adjust the assignment as needed. Presentations must be submitted at least three months prior to the Course to allow time for faculty review and optimization of content within the corresponding sessions.

As a preferred format, we will encourage authors to submit a short video recording of the surgical technique described in the abstract. This will make the technique easier to understand and will facilitate a more effective and focused discussion.

Integration into the Program

Selected abstracts will not be presented as free papers, but instead will be incorporated into curated and interactive formats, such as:

  • Case Discussion Sessions on selected clinical themes
  • Case Discussions with the Expert, in focused settings
  • Plenary Sessions, where high-impact cases may stimulate discussion among panelists and participants

Each presentation will be delivered in 3–5 minutes, followed by structured faculty-led discussion aimed at highlighting key clinical and educational insights.

Deadlines

All deadlines are till midnight (CET - UTC+1)

  • 4 October 2026 Case submission
